HP has recently sent out a notice that they will be releasing a new chip update for the HP 902XL/952XL/972X cartridges on December 1st, 2020.

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06706633

Any OEM or remanufactured cartridges with warranty end date of January or April 2021, that are not installed before December 1st, 2020 might not be compatible with the printers listed below. We are currently working on getting the updated chip for these cartridges but it is uncertain when they will be available and the new cost.

In order to avoid customers from buying cartridges that may not be recognized by HP (if the customer doesn't install them before December 1st, 2020), effective November 20th, 2020 and until further notice, we will be offering for sale cartridges that have an original expiry date after April 2021. The availability of these cartridges will be very limited.

For customers, you should plan as follows:

1) For cartridges purchased before November 20, 2020, you should install the cartridge in your printer no later than Dec 1, 2020, to ensure it will not be locked out by HP. Do not purchase in bulk, order just what you need and install before Dec 1, 2020.

3) For cartridges purchased from us after November 20, 2020, expect that supply will be limited until there are enough empties in the remanufacturing cycle that gave an original expiry after April 2021, or until a new chip is developed that overrides this issue.

In place of the new chip cartridges, effective today, we are offering OEM chip cartridges that are guaranteed to work after December 1st, 2020. We will be using original HP ink cartridges that expire after January or April 2021. Since these cartridges are very limited, they will be offered at the same price as the current new chip cartridges.

In summary:

IMPORTANT: You may need to install these cartridges before December 1, 2020, or HP may not allow them to be used in your printer.
(This affects ORIGINAL HP cartridges, and remanufactured cartridges).
HP 902 / HP 952 and HP 972 cartridges with an original warranty expiry date of Jan-April 2021, may NO LONGER BE RECOGNIZED in HP printers after Dec 1, 2020, unless the cartridges are installed in your printer before Dec 1.
This applies to OEM (original HP) cartridges, as well as remanufactured cartridges such as the ones you purchased, since remanufactured cartridges use OEM empties.
To avoid this possible interruption by HP, you should install your cartridges into your printer before Dec 1, 2020.
(once the printer recognizes your cartridges, before Dec 1, 2020, it will continue to accept them, even after Dec 1, 2020)
