It has just been determined that BROTHER has released a NEW CHIP on the Brother LC103 / LC105 / LC107 ink cartridges, essentially referred to here as NEW GENERATION cartridges. The actual cartridges are the same as before, but the chip that is on the cartridges is NEW, as of approximately March 2015.

WHAT THIS MEANS:
NEW PRINTERS by Brother (which can be identified by the codes 5A, 5B, 4M or 4G by looking at the batch code on your printer box or printer itself, as shown by the picture below), will only accept the NEW CHIP. If your printer has a different code (not starting with 5A, 5B, 4M or 4G), then you have an older version printer, and your printer will accept the OLD CHIPS.

IF YOU HAVE A "NEW" PRINTER (batch code starts with 5A, 5B, 4M or 4G):
If you install an OLD GENERATION cartridge, the printer will read the chip on the cartridge, but after you print one page, the chip will not be read. And if you take the cartridge out and re-install it back into printer, the chip will be read again, but after printing one page, again the chip will not be read. We highly advise that you wait for our NEW GENERATION cartridges if you have a NEW PRINTER. They are expected to be released by mid-late April 2015.

IF YOU HAVE AN "OLD" PRINTER (batch code does not start with 5A, 5B, 4M or 4G):
Our OLD GENERATION cartridges will work just fine. And our NEW GENERATION cartridges which we will release in April will work as well.
