How to Fool an HP Deskjet Into Thinking it Has New Ink Cartridges

By Pamela

With some HP DeskJet printers, you need to fool the printer into thinking you have replaced the old ink cartridge with a new ink cartridge instead of a refilled ink cartridge that you filled yourself. If the printer keeps telling you to replace the ink cartridge or the ink level still reads empty, you can reset the printer so that it will recognize the refilled ink cartridge as new and read the ink level as full, or close to it.

Step 1

Remove the ink cartridge from the printer carriage. Turn the cartridge over so that you are looking at the copper contacts. The contacts should be the closest to you. If the contacts are at the top of the ink cartridge, turn it around so the contacts are closest to you.

Step 2

Place a small piece of clear tape over the seventh copper contact in the second row of contacts from the left side. Place the cartridge back in the printer. Tell the printer to run an alignment. When the alignment is done, remove the cartridge.

Step 3

Keep that piece of tape on the contact. On the right side of the cartridge, in the second row from the right, place a small piece of tape over the sixth copper contact. Place the ink cartridge in the printer. Run an alignment page again.

Remove the ink cartridge when the alignment is done. Remove the tape, making sure to remove the sticky residue when you remove the tape. Place the cartridge in the printer. The printer is ready.

I have just installed my HP cartridge(s) and it's not getting recognized, Any Help??

As most of the issues can be resolved by troubleshooting. Please see if the steps below help you:

HP displays a warning message when a cartridge is half full or is a third party cartridge. The goal of the message is to trick you to buy HP's new "genuine" cartridge. Although HP is obligated by law to let us refill the cartridge, HP planted some tricks. When we insert a half-full or a non-HP cartridge, the printer will display the message "Used or Counterfeit Cartridge." We can click "Continue," "OK" or "Yes" to dismiss this message.

Another HP's trick is to show a follow-up message: "Did you buy this cartridge as a New and Genuine HP Product?" The answer should be "No." If you click "Yes," then HP can stop you from using this cartridge. This message exists in some older printers. We put it here for reference.

The cartridge Is Low on Ink. Click "OK" or "Continue." If you are using a refilled cartridge, please note that this is normal and keep using the printer.
'Used, Refilled or Counterfeit Ink Cartridge Detected' Click "OK" or "Continue."
"Ink Cartridge Depleted." We need to turn off the chip info or "anonymous information" on the printer's LCD panel.
Incompatible Ink Cartridges. It is either an old version of the cartridge or a wrong model. You need to change the cartridge.
HP Protected Cartridge Installed. HP can let you "protect" your cartridge, so the cartridge can only be used in your printer. If you bought a refilled cartridge that is protected, then you won't be able to use it.
Furthermore, if the HP Printer Utility is installed on the computer, we can turn off the "Display HP Alerts."

You can check which cartridge actually has got the problem by Installing NEW Black with the old Color cartridge and see if it works and can Install the NEW Color with your old Black cartridge and see which cartridge is having teh problem and not printing. You can also try and clear the contacts of the Printer and the cartridge using a lint free cloth/ eraser/ alcohol. Just try and reinsert the cartridge for 2-3 times until it gets recognized.

First Hold the Power Button and then press the Cancel button on your printer and hold them together for some 5-10 sec. after that leave the power button first and then the cancel button. See if the lights stopped blinking and if the cartridge work.

caution:
Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or ink nozzles. Also, do not re-tape the cartridges. Doing so can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.

Please confirm if it helped or not so we can proceed further accordingly.

Can I downgrade the firmware on my Epson WF-3720??

Recently, Epson released a firmware update. If you are not yet affected by this, you can refer to the instructions below on how to disable future Epson firmware upgrades. Otherwise, if you are one of those that are affected by this recent Epson firmware changes, then the instructions below might help you on how to do an Epson printer firmware reset or Epson firmware downgrade.

Here is a link to a youtube video for your reference:

Video on Downgrade firmware on Epson WF-3720

You can now use Initial or compatible cartridges even if your printer has a firmware that blocks them. Link to file: https://gofile.io/d/7e3xnD

How to Turn Off Epson firmware updates:

If you are using Windows, you can disable automatic updates by opening up the Epson Software Updater on your desktop.

1. Search for "Epson Software Updater" on the Windows search bar and open up the program

2. Select your printer model from the drop down menu and then select "Auto Update Settings"

3. Select "Never" under the "Interval to Check" menu. To save your settings and exit, select "OK".

Option 2:

Here are the alternative set of instructions on how to disable automatic firmware updates on an Epson printer:

1. On your Windows Taskbar, right click on the Epson printer icon.

2. Right click on the printer icon and select "Software Update Settings" from the list.

3. Select the "Never" option and then click OK.

Epson T288 / T288XL ink cartridges firmware update (Sept 2019)

Epson recently released new firmware and pushed consumers to upgrade printer firmware on printers that use Epson T288xl inkjets. When the consumer upgrades the firmware, the current third party T288xl inkjets can't be recognized. We provide instructions here to help you to downgrade the firmware that you recently upgraded. Then you can continue to use third party T288xl inkjets and enjoy low cost printing.
HP 952xl, HP 902xl, HP 972A, HP 972X, HP 976Y, HP 981A, HP 981X, HP 981Y inkjets - NEW CHIP!

HP updated its firmware (version 1910AR) for all printers using HP 952xl, 902xl, 972A/X, 976Y, 981A/X/Y inkjets on April 9, 2019. If you have your printer setting such that it is allowed to upgrade the firmware from HP via the internet (or if you accepted such a firmware update request from HP), you have essentially allowed HP to lock you out from using remanufactured / 3rd party cartridges. All third party cartridges with an old chip version won't work on the printer with updated firmware.

As of May 13, 2019 - we have released a V5 chip for HP 952xl, 902xl, 972A/X, 976Y, 981A/X/Y inkjets that will work on all these HP models and circumvent the firmware update issue. If you have an earlier version cartridge, please order our new cartridges or contact us for a replacement for a new cartridge with the V5 chip version.

HP 63 / HP 63XL / HP 65 / HP 65XL older generation cartridge issue (cartridges not recognized)

Unfortunately, HP has done it again! For the HP 63 / HP 63XL / HP 65 / HP 65XL ink cartridges, HP has released a "new generation" cartridge version during 2018, that replaced their "older generation" cartridge version which they released initially.

This means that there are 2 types of "HP 63 / HP 63XL" and "HP 65 / HP 65XL" cartridges on the market:
- older generation
- newer generation

The only way to know the difference is to investigate the serial numbers.

THE PROBLEM:
"newer" printers (released after May 2018) will not accept the old generation cartridges.
This is a problem for BOTH remanufactured and HP Original cartridges.
See HP's explanation:

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05949801

Here is how the error shows up on "newer generation" printers:

As far as we understand, the issue affects customers as follows:

All HP 63 / 63XL should work in all printers EXCEPT newer generation OfficeJet 5255 and OfficeJet 5258 (those 2 printer models will only work with "new generation" cartridges)

All HP 65 / 65XL should work in all printers EXCEPT newer generation HP Deskjet 2655 and HP Envy 5055 (those 2 printer models will only work with "new generation" cartridges)

THE SOLUTION(S):

Firstly, be aware of your rights as a consumer:

- You can choose to use other brand of printers now or in the future (Canon or Epson offers comparable printers to HP, that are often are the same price as the price of a new set of HP Original cartridges)
- If you have been a victim, you might be eligible to join the class action lawsuit. Filing closes March 2019 (https://www.hpprinterfirmwarelawsuit.com/)

What we are doing about it:

If you have bought an HP 63XL / HP 65XL cartridge from us that won't work in your printer and is giving you this "older generation" error, please contact us. We will help determine if the issue is related to the "generation" issue, and either issue you a replacement, refund or store credit.

For HP 63 / 63XL - as of Feb 8, 2019, we already have a new solution developed. It is called an "e-patch" or electronic patch, that we are affixing to our cartridges prior to shipping them out, that will communicate a "new generation" version to your printer. So if you are an HP 63 customer, sending a replacement as of Feb 8, 2019 onwards will definitely solve your issue. This e-patch is quite expensive, but we are including it for FREE for our customers.

For HP 65 / 65XL- we do not have an e-patch ready yet, but expect to have it ready by March 2019. If you have an HP 65 and are affected by this error, sending you a replacement may not work until the e-patch is ready (because it depends on how old the cartridge core is on the remanufactured cartridge that we send out), so we recommend getting a store credit which you can use for any other ink/toner cartridge needs that you have, OR if you can wait a couple of weeks we should have an e-patch out for the HP 65 soon.

HP Firmware blocks ALL cartridges except HP Original Cartridges

HP FIRMWARE updates are blocking and preventing any ink cartridge that is not HP OEM Original ( most expensive) from being recognized. HP printer will show error signal such as "older generation" cartridge or "incompatible, missing or used cartridge"

Credit card information is NOT stored by our company - it is discarded after each order is processed

We do not store credit card numbers or information on file

Please note that we do NOT store credit/debit card numbers - it is discarded after each order is processed
We do not keep credit cards on file. Your browser Chrome/Edge/Explorer/Firefox/safari (not our website) may be asking you to store your credit card info in their system. Note this is not our site asking this.
We are determined to protect and maintain your privacy. We are privileged to be trusted by you and will not jeopardize that trust.

Our corporate policy is to permanently discard your Credit Card information immediately after the order. Although that is an inconvenience for you, that you have to enter the card info each and every time, it is more secure.
The more you put your information out there, the more you need to work to keep an eye on it.
So we hope you understand that it may take you time to enter your card info each time, for each purchase rather than storing that information for convenience. We prefer to keep you secure, even if it means a few seconds of slight inconvenience. We know you appreciate our care.

I can't find my PACKAGE, but it shows DELIVERED

There are rare circumstances when a package shows delivered, but you cannot find it.

Often we find the following cases :
- A nearby residence ( a neighbor) may have received it on accident and returns it
- A family member or resident receives it, but forgets to notify the other
- The shipper realizes they may have delivered it to the wrong address and attempts to rectify it
- The package is left in a location that is not easily visible or uncommon to you

If possible consider the above. In any case our responsibility is to ensure you get your item. We will file the claim, after receiving your affidavit.

If we cannot find your package following the Shipper's investigation, we will either :
Ship you another package at our cost, or refund you.

Unfortunately porch thieves and shipper efficiency is an issue we face. We strive to make this right for you.

Canada Postal Strike (November 2018)

UPDATE 11/27/2018:

According to Canada Post:
As of 12pm EST on 11/27/18, the union is no longer in a legal strike position. We expect employees to return to work in areas impacted by strike activity in the last 24 hours. Canada Post is now working to stabilize operations with a manageable approach across the country. With our network currently facing unprecedented backlogs, customers can continue to expect delivery delays for the next several weeks.

UPDATE 11/26/2018:

The ongoing labor dispute initiated by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) is causing country-wide shipping delays. To get the latest updates on this situation, sign up for updates from Canada Post.

We offer 3 levels of service for deliveries to Canada, here is how they are affected by the current strikes:

ECONOMY - since Canada Post / Royal Mail is the final delivery carrier for this method, if you select this option your order will likely be affected by the strikes with delays / delivery times that are not possible to predict at this time.

PRIORITY - if you select this option, that allows us to route most parcels to alternate delivery partners in Canada to bypass the strikes as much as possible. Some delays are still possible. Total delivery time is estimated at 7-14 business days instead of the usual 4-10 days.

URGENT - if you select this option, we will ship your parcel via DHL EXPRESS, which completely bypasses the strike and offers the fastest delivery possible (2-7 business days)

How to Prevent smudging on your prints - by raising the printhead

In a previous article I wrote about how to deal with markings on the prints resulting from the printer rollers and the bottom/upper plates of the printer. In this new article we going to learn how to deal with markings resulting from the printhead which normally happens when we use a thicker paper.

All types of printers can be corrected and/or adjusted from the printer menu and I am listing the solution to all Canon and Epsons.
CANON PRINTERS

Go to printer properties and click on maintenance

Click on Custom settings

This window will open up

The print head has now moved further up to make way for thicker paper such as frosting sheets etc and will no longer touch the sheet.
EPSON PRINTERS
On most desktop Epson printers go to the main preferences page which should look like the one below

Select Envelope as your type of paper used and choose the size of your paper from the drop down menu. In this case it is letter size. Because envelope is thicker than ordinary printing paper the print head will change its position to further away from your paper. On some models and nearly on all high end, Epson models you can adjust the print head from the main menu and click on Paper configuration

You will come to this screen

Click the platen Gap button and change it from standard to wide

Your printers print head will now move further away from the paper and it should not smudge your photos. If all of the above fail to remedy the problem in addition to cleaning the rollers from the maintenance menu you should remove the covers of the printer and manually clean all stained rollers and or plates
Epson Inkjet Printers - firmware update November 2017

Around Nov 10 - 25, 2017, Epson has once again attempted to block printer owners from using third-party cartridges from functioning correctly, causing a number of ‘Cartridge Problem’ errors.

Epson pushed an update to many users printers via the internet / firmware update, causing them to show errors such as cartridge not recognized, cartridge damaged, and related errors.

Cartridge models affected may include the Epson T200, T220, T252 and more Epson inkjet cartridge models.

This was done by Epson to cause printer owners to be frustrated with remanufactured cartridges and to get you to buy only Original cartridges! We are on your side and are working on a solution!

We have discovered this issue on 11/27/2017 and are actively working on a solution to affected Epson printer owners. If you have been affected, please contact us but give us a few days to provide you with a solution. Returning the cartridges will cause more frustration and delays, as we expect to have a solution for you within days so you can get back to being able to use remanufactured cartridges.

If you have not yet been affected, you can prevent such issues from occurring by not accepting automatic firmware updates (and not manually updating your firmware either if prompted to do so). Check your printer guide on how to OPT OUT of automatic updates.

Such automatic updates are often presented by Epson as improvements to your printer/software, but they are also used by Epson to block you from using 3rd party cartridges.

Error: ???One or more cartridges appear to be damaged. Remove them and replace with new cartridges.???

On Sept 13, 2017, HP once again attempted to block printer owners from using third-party cartridges from functioning correctly, causing a number of ‘Cartridge Problem’ errors.

HP pushed an update to many users printers via the internet / firmware update, causing them to show errors. Some of the printer models that are being affected include the HP Officejet Pro 6200 Series, the HP Officejet 6800 series and the HP Officejet Pro 8600 series, to name a few. Cartridge models affected include the HP 950 / 950XL / 950 / 951XL, HP 934 / 934XL / 935 / 935XL and HP 970 / 971 / 970XL / 971XL.

HP did the same thing in 2016. then apologized to its consumers but confirmed that it “will block non-HP cartridges again in the future”. And now it has done so again.

Many consumers are being faced with the following message on their printers:

‘One or more cartridges appear to be damaged. Remove them and replace with new cartridges.’

There is a solution though!

Consumers who are encountering difficulties with their remanufactured cartridges can resolve the issue by downloading the new firmware from HP’s support page.

How to find my ink or toner

There are 2 main methods in which to find the ink/toner that you need for your printer

========================

Method 1 (the long way):
Click on your brand, such as:

Now you will have to search through all Brother printer models or cartridge models to find your specific model:

========================

Method 2 (the short way):
Use the search box and type in your printer model or cartridge model:

This will find your specific model without having to search through all printer/cartridge models.

My printouts are dirty, or show traces of ink in thin lines or patches. Or sheets get stuck.

INKJET PRINTER ROLLER AND PLATE CLEANING

COMPLAINT

Printouts are dirty, or show traces of ink in thin lines or patches, either randomly, or horizontally or vertically.

or

Printer “chews” the sheets, or sheets get stuck.

PROBLEM

The printer’s rollers and/or plates may be dirty.

SOLUTION

Clean the printer’s rollers and plates.

If the printouts are dirty or show traces of ink either thin lines or just dirty patches on some parts of the sheet either horizontally or vertically, this could be as a result of the printer’s rollers and plates that are dirty and need to be cleaned. All printers provide a maintenance feature in their menu for cleaning these parts (similar to how they allow you to do a print head cleaning from the maintenance menu in order to clean print-heads if they are clogged).

Above left: example of what some of the printer rollers look like and each printer has a minimum of 2 sets of them in order to drive the paper to the print head.
Above right: A typical printer’s menu in the maintenance tab (on different printers, this menu may look slightly different, but the concept is the same)

On the above 2 photos you can see examples of dirty prints or lines on the page caused by dirty rollers that need cleaning.

Please note:

Rollers are situated in different places according to printer make and model. Certain printers will ask you to choose what you want to clean. Normally they will ask you if you want to clean the rollers and also if you want to clean the top plate or the bottom plate. We always suggest to the customer that they go through cleaning all parts of the printer that it gives us the option to clean by following the instructions step by step.

Very importantly we should recommend to the customer that they should buy a set of cleaning carttridges which will do a better and thorough cleaning of these parts.

Cleaning of Rollers and plates however can be done by using the normal ink cartridges but they will need to do more cleaning cycles to achieve the result and will waste some ink.

The specialty cleaning futures on the printers were put there by the manufacturer because they are absolutely necessary to do some cleaning without having to be an expert and dismantle the printer in order to clean everything manually.

You should use these cleaning functions frequently if you want to have perfect prints and a trouble free printer for a long long time.

HP 934 / HP 935 Firmware update by HP March 2016 - cartridge may not be recognized

HP has updated the firmware again on network printers that have updates enabled.
This affects the HP printers that take the HP 934 / HP 935 cartridges (including 934XL and 935XL).

Here is the latest on the 934/935 Chip issue that has started affecting some customers around March 2016:

The firmware updates will only affect you if you have have chosen the option of automatically upgrading your printer firmware. In general you should NOT pick that option whenever your printer prompts you to.

We have a solution!

1. If your cartridges that are in your printer suddenly stopped printing, or are not being recognized by the printer, understand that this is due to what HP has done to cause you to be frustrated and go back to buying expensive original HP brand. If you want to continue saving money, we have the solution - a NEW CHIP WHICH WE HAVE INSTALLED ON OUR CURRENT SUPPLY OF CARTRIDGES.

2. Contact us and let us know about your situation, and request us to send you NEW CARTRIDGES (with the NEW, LATEST Chips).

HP 950 / 951 / 950XL / 951XL not recognized - FIRMWARE update by HP January-March 2016

HP has updated the firmware again on network printers that have updates enabled.
The new firmware is FDP1CN1547AR, while the older version was 1502AR for the last six characters. This effects the HP printers that take the HP 950 / HP 951 cartridges (including 950XL and 951XL).

Here is the latest on the 950/951 Chip issue that has started affecting some customers around Jan-March 2016:

1. The firmware updates will only affect you if you have have chosen the option of automatically upgrading your printer firmware. In general you should NOT pick that option whenever your printer prompts you to.

2. If you had ALREADY installed a cartridge in your printer before March 11, the upgrade will cause your printer to stop recognizing your cartridge and it will no longer print. BUT if you replace that with a cartridge that has a NEW CHIP, or if you change the chip on your cartridge to a NEW CHIP, your cartridge will work fine again.

We have a solution!

1. If your cartridges that are in your printer suddenly stopped printing, or are not being recognized by the printer, understand that this is due to what HP has done to cause you to be frustrated and go back to buying expensive original HP brand. If you want to continue saving money, we have the solution - a NEW CHIP.

2. Contact us and let us know about your situation, and request us to send you NEW CHIP(s) depending on how many cartridges you have. These NEW CHIPS are super easy to install, and take all but 1 minute to do. Attached are the instructions on how to replace the chip.
How to remove and replace a printhead in some Canon printers

See attached for full instructions including pics of below.

======

Open the the inner cover (B) and push it down all the way to the bottom.

Pull the Carriage Tray towards the front of the machine. You may find resistance when the bottom of the Head Set Lever hits the back of the front edge. The Head Set Lever will move forward as it slides above that front edge.

Use your finger tips to grab the top of the center tab and pull out the print head. You will notice the front of the print head will drop face down as you pull it out of the machine.

Now go to section Installing (or Reseating) the Print Head.

Installing (or Reseating) the Print Head:

If you are installing a replacement print head, remove it from its packaging.

Hold the center tab of the replacement print head, with the front of the print head facing down (so you can see the back of the print head (green circuit board)), and ensure the two tabs on the front, bottom corners of the print head are inserted into the rails on either side of the print head holder.

Now slide the replacement print head into the machine.
As the print head slides into the holder, it will start to sit in an upright position.

Once the print head is seated in the print head holder, push the Head Set Lever towards the back of the machine.

Close the inner cover.

Firmware Update HP 950XL/951XL Cartridges Not Recognized

Firmware update on March or newer printers accepting HP 950XL / HP 951XL: Cartridges not recognized

We have just learned that HP has updated the firmware in their printers that utilize the HP 950 / HP 951 (or HP 950XL / HP 951XL) cartridge models. For printer models released in March 2015 (or later), our HP 950XL / HP 951XL will not be recognized. This affects the following SKUs:

151-590-01BLACKNU
151-590-01CYANNU
151-590-01MAGENTANU
151-590-01YELLOWNU
151-590-STDBLK
151-590-STDCYN
151-590-STDMAG
151-590-STDYEL

151-790-01

If you have purchased your HP printer prior to March 2015, the above SKUs will work just fine. But if your printer was purchased on or after March 1, 2015, it is likely that your printer will not recognize our SKUs (due to the firmware update by HP in its newest printers). We are working on releasing a newer version to support March 2015 or newer printers as soon as possible.

For informational purposes, the HP 950 / 951 cartridges are utilized by the following printers:

Update as of May 20, 2015:

The following SKU's are still affected by the above article:

B504 Error Code on Canon Printers (affects Canon PGI-1200 and PGI-2200 based printers)

Canon's Recently released MB2320 series Printer is giving some customers an Error Code B504.

This error code occurs when there is no ink at the print-head, which could occur when a cartridge is completely depleted or no ink is flowing. What happens when you go to insert a new cartridge, is that the printer automatically looks to run a default cleaning process, but if it finds no ink at the print-head, it will report an error. This can happen with original cartridges or non-original cartridges - it is an issue with the printer, but there is a solution, and the solution is listed below.

The below instructions can also solve most "recognition" issues, error codes, or poor printing problems with these cartridges.
------

Instructions for use of the Canon PGI-1200 / PGI-2200 compatible cartridges

Important:

The yellow protective tape must be removed from the cartridge before installing it.

If the cartridge is removed from the printer when it is fully depleted or when no ink is flowing, you may experience an error code such as B504. This is due to the printer design, not due to the cartridge design. It happens because when you install a new cartridge, the printer automatically does a cleaning cycle, but if there is no ink in the print-head, it will generate an error.

Instructions to follow if needing to replace the cartridges if you have an error code:

           i. With the printer turned on, unplug the power cord and open the front cover.

ii. Move the print-head cart manually to the location of cartridge replacement (if the print-head cart is not movable, plug the printer back on / switch it on and then unplug it again when the print-head cart is in a movable position)

iii. Place your index finger above the cartridge you wish to change, and press on the fastener that is located under the black plectrum, you will hear a clicking sound, and the cartridge will eject. Change other cartridges in this way as needed.

BROTHER LC103 / LC105 / LC107 chip update - March 2015

It has just been determined that BROTHER has released a NEW CHIP on the Brother LC103 / LC105 / LC107 ink cartridges, essentially referred to here as NEW GENERATION cartridges. The actual cartridges are the same as before, but the chip that is on the cartridges is NEW, as of approximately March 2015.

WHAT THIS MEANS:

NEW PRINTERS by Brother (which can be identified by the codes 5A, 5B, 4M or 4G by looking at the batch code on your printer box or printer itself, as shown by the picture below), will only accept the NEW CHIP. If your printer has a different code (not starting with 5A, 5B, 4M or 4G), then you have an older version printer, and your printer will accept the OLD CHIPS.

IF YOU HAVE A "NEW" PRINTER (batch code starts with 5A, 5B, 4M or 4G):

If you install an OLD GENERATION cartridge, the printer will read the chip on the cartridge, but after you print one page, the chip will not be read. And if you take the cartridge out and re-install it back into printer, the chip will be read again, but after printing one page, again the chip will not be read. We highly advise that you wait for our NEW GENERATION cartridges if you have a NEW PRINTER. They are expected to be released by mid-late April 2015.

IF YOU HAVE AN "OLD" PRINTER (batch code does not start with 5A, 5B, 4M or 4G):

Our OLD GENERATION cartridges will work just fine. And our NEW GENERATION cartridges which we will release in April will work as well.

My TONER cartridge is not printing well after I refill it

This article pertains to any PRINT QUALITY ISSUES with toner cartridges after they have been refilled:

Although almost all customers are satisfied with the quality of their cartridge after they refill it, the print quality depends on the condition of the cartridge and the level of usage / wear and tear of the cartridge. Quality is always going to be best when you refill an Original brand cartridge or a professionally remanufactured cartridge (that has gone through only 1 life cycle). Refilling a non-original brand cartridge (such as a compatible brand, or a cartridge which has been refilled multiple timnes) will have a much higher rate of cartridge wear and tear, and therefore lower quality prints. For these reasons we also do not recommend more than 1-2 refills on the same cartridge. Please note that even original brand cartridges can wear out early, but they will perform on average much better than non-original or multiple-refilled cartridges. You can see more info about this here.

Why does your CIS system use Dye ink when my original cartridges are pigment?

For most of our CIS we sell them with UV dye ink because the color gamut is much better, it's brighter and this avoid clogging issues if your not a heavy user. UV dye is a dye based ink, that is enhanced with UV inhibitors, so it is not your "common" dye ink. Pigment ink dries faster on printheads if the printer is not used often. Since this is a continuous ink system, UV dye ink is better for quality in the long run than pigment.
This Continuous ink system will work with your printer the same way as if you were using the OEM pigment ink, by using UV Dye inks you will have significantly less risk for clogging issues than if you use pigment ink.

* Quality ranges based on speed/color of the printer. For HIGH SPEED and COLOR laser printers, quality is more challenging, and Xerox has higher quality than our Value-Line offering. The Xerox Quality is "OEM like", meaning it is the same or extremely similar to the OEM. After all, Xerox is an OEM, and they invented laser printers, so they have the best product on the market for HP and Brother, at 30-40% off HP and Brother genuine prices.

HP 950 / 950XL / 951 / 951XL - no ink level chip cartridges

If you have bought our "no ink level monitoring" cartridges for the HP 950XL / 951XL, note that these are professionally remanufactured (which means the cartridge was once an original HP brand, used, and then collected and professionally remanufactured – filled with new ink and any worn parts replaced, then tested and sealed before shipping).

They should give you approximately the same page yield and quality as the original brand.

The chip technology on this cartridge is very complicated. HP wants you to keep buying original

cartridges from them, so they make their printers very sensitive to the chip on the cartridge and

will show you a number of warning messages on installation. Don’t worry! You are able to

override / ignore the HP messages!

WARNING 1: “The original HP ink in 1 or more cartridges has been depleted” – click OK

WARNING 2: “HPs cartridge warranty does not cover non-HP ink or cartridges” – click OK

WARNING 3: “HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability” – click OK

Final Note: Since these remanufactured cartridges were previously used, your HP printer won’t recognize

the ink level inside the cartridges, so it will show you that you have “empty” cartridges. You can ignore

this low or out of ink level sensor, and continue to print knowing that the cartridges are 100% filled.

TOTALFLEX inkjet refill machine

The TOTALFLEX ink filling machine is a revolutionary refill machine that refills ALL black inkjet cartridges and ALL color inkjet cartridges that have print-heads.

SEE ATTACHED FOR THE PDF INSTRUCTIONS
ALSO WATCH THE YOUTUBE VIDEO HERE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HA5kUIqFUU

The TOTALFLEX ink filling machine is engineered and developed for professional ink cartridge refilling. This machine refills all BLACK, COLOR and TRI-COLOR ink cartridges with print-heads.

The technology inside this little machine is incredible. It includes:

2 Chip Processors

4 Independent Pumps

6 Refill Buttons (each will fill a specific cartridge with the exact amount of ink)

9 Refilling Programs with independent color control

Electronic Vacuum

Self-Cleaning System (ACD or Automatic Cartridge Drainer)

With the use of 4 independent peristaltic pumps and pre-programmed settings (at a touch of a button) that will inject the correct amount of ink for any specific cartridge model, this machine will fill more than 40 types of ink cartridges (essentially all the print-head cartridges) in under 5 minutes, and with exact volume filling precision.

The revolutionary A.C.D (Automatic Cartridge Drainer) device suctions on the print-heads while inks are being injected into the cartridge, and this increases the success rate of the cartridge drastically as compared to other refill machines. The A.C.D. also permits cartridge emptying and ink balancing routines, as well as a self-cleaning function that automatically clears the machine's hoses after its use.

SMALL SIZE , BIG PERFORMANCE!

Developed for professional use, this machine refills BLACK, COLOR and TRI-COLOR ink cartridges. It has 4 independent peristaltic pumps with individual control and 6 different programs that allow you to inject the right amount of ink for all cartridge models. Besides, this machine is provided with the A.C.D (Automatic Cartridge Drainer) device that, through adapters, sucks the printhead while color inks are injected into the cartridge sponges. The A.C.D. also permits cartridge emptying and ink balancing routines. A SELF-CLEANING function automatically clears the machine's hoses after its use.

With daily refill capacity over 180 cartridges, this machine is one of the unique that holds 18 months total warranty* !

*On manufacture defects, using appropriate materials and following the manual guide instructions.

The following popular cartridge models can be refilled with the TOTALFLEX:

Brother LC103 ink cartridges: new firmware / new chip August - Dec 2014

In or around August 2014, Brother released new firmware on their inkjet printers, which results in the printers not being able to recognize our compatible ink cartridge chips. This will only affect customers if the printer is manufactured after August 2014, of if you download the latest firmware from Brother.

DO NOT DOWNLOAD ANY FIRMWARE / UPDATES if prompted to do so by Brother.

If you did install the latest firmware or have a newer printer manufactured after August 2014, your printer will only work with NEW generation chips. We upgraded our chips just prior to August 2014, so an all new update is now pending and expected to be released in January 2015.

How to change the chip on a canon inkjet cartridge

The attached instructions will work on all chipped Canon ink cartridges (including the PGI 5 / CLI 8 / PGI 220 / CLI221 / PGI 225 / CLI 226 / PGI 250 / CLI 251 ink cartridges):

1. Identify the location of the existing chip on the underside of the cartridge. You will notice that it is held in place with 4 protruding pieces of plastic shown by the red circles in the image below. Using a sharp object such as a knife (be careful not to cut yourself!), gently pry away at the plastic protrusions.

Exerting just a little pressure on them with a sharp object will dislodge them. Now the chip will come freely off.

2. Insert the new chip in the same orientation as the old chip was facing (make sure you pay close attention to the way the chip is facing onto the cartridge before you take it off). To hold the new chip in place, use some crazy glue on the edges of the chip and/or on the prong locations that you cut off in step 1. Be careful NOT to put too much glue as you do not want the glue to get onto any of the electronic circuits on the chip itself. Just a tiny drop of glue in a couple of locations will be enough to hold the new chip in place.

(see attached for the images)

HP Laserjet 4200, 4250, 4300, and 4350 error: 10.00.00 Supplies Memory Error or "non HP cartridge" detected

We have investigated this with the manufacturer, and there are some reports about a firmware update that causes these error messages on some printers only when the printer is powered off, or if the lid is opened for a replacement cartridge. As long as you override the error message by pressing and holding the green "check" button, and as long as you leave the printer on, there should be no error messages after that until it comes time to replace the cartridge. Unfortunately this is the only workaround.

How to open a new ink cartridge so that it doesn't leak

The best way to open an ink cartridge so that it doesn't leak is as follows:

(this applies to cartridges that look like the one below, which is similar for Epson and most Canon ink cartridges, and some Lexmark/Dell)

First remove the tape that is sealing the breathing hole (shown above by the yellow tape)

Then remove the protective clip (without applying pressure to the sides of the cartridge). Protective clip is shown below.

My ink cartridge doesn't fit / is too large

Most if not all ink cartridges come with a protective clip. The clip looks similar to the ones shown in the example pics below, and easily snaps off.

(the pic on the left shows an HP ink cartridge with a black protective clip, and the pic on the right is showing a Canon ink cartridge with an orange protective clip. Depending on your cartridge model, the protective clip may look slightly different)
