In general, we recommend DISABLING PRINTER UPDATES on ALL PRINTERS, and to never agree to updates (automatic or otherwise) if you want to continue to be able to use lower cost 3rd party / remanufactured cartridges.

To disable automatic updates for the W2030A/W2030X/ series printers -

1. Click Setup on the printer display (gear icon)

2. Click service

3. Click LaserJet Update, then click Manage Updates

4. Click on “automatic check” and set a check mark to “Off”, then repeat the process for the item “Allow updates”

For the CF259A/CF259X series printers:

1. Press the “OK” button and then the “Settings” tab

2. Click through the menu and press “Print Expectation”

3. Then press the menu item “Update firmware”

4. In the menu item “Update firmware” you will find the settings: “Update Settings” and “Allow updates.”

5. At both points set the check mark to “off”

Replacing a Toner cartridge and Drum is both different but the symptoms are similar,with a little technical know-how and understanding what signs and symptoms to look for, you can rule out ink and toner problems and determine when printer drum replacement is necessary.

Blurry Prints

If your printer is churning out blurry pages, it either means that your printer drum is damaged and in need of replacement or that you need new ink toner. You can determine what the problem is by checking the toner cartridge.

Black Spots

Another common sign of a damaged printer drum is the presence of black spots or blotches on printed documents. This is often the result of a scratched or damaged printing drum surface, which prevents ink and toner from printing properly. If it's just dirt and dust that's present on the printer drum, wipe it off with a dry, lint-free cloth and resume printing to see if that fixes the problem. If problems persist, the drum likely needs to be replaced.

Poor Print Quality

If you're printer is churning out low-quality documents, it's likely the case of a damaged printer drum. 1. Press Menu.
2. Press the Up or Down arrow key to display the General Setup option, and then press OK.
3. Press the Up or Down arrow key to display the Replace Toner option, and then press OK.

4. Press the Up or Down arrow key to display the Continue or Stop option, and then press OK. 5. Press Stop/Exit.
For the Brother HL Series Printers (HL-L2300D, HL-L2305W, HLL2315DW, HL-L2320D, HL-L2340DW, HL-L2360DW, HLL2380DW):
1. Open front cover and leave it open.
2. Turn off printer.
3. Hold GO button while turning printer on.
4. After 3 seconds of printer being back on, release both buttons. (If you have a readout “User Mode” will appear, if you have no readout don’t worry)
5. Press Go button 9 times.

6. WiFi LED (if you have one) will flash once. (If you have no readout, go to next step.)

7. Press Go button 5 times.
8. Close the cover.
For the Brother MFC Laser Printers ( MFC-L2720DW, MFCL2740DW):
1. Open the front cover of your Brother MFC laser printer where you can access its toner cartridge.
2. Press and hold the Hash (#) button for about 5 seconds to see the toner menu on the screen. (The # key will be blacked out. If you are unsure where it is located press fax to find then press clear to perform the reset from your menu)
3. Select the toner you need to reset (For the TN630 choose STD for TN660 choose HC)

4. Select YES to reset.
5. Close the front cover.
6. DONE.

1. Open front cover of printer (to reveal the cartridge mechanism) and “Front Door Open” will flash on the display.
2. Next, press STOP/EXIT and CLEAR at the SAME TIME (one quick press)
3. Immediately after, press CLEAR once again.
4. A menu called RESET MENU will appear.
5. Arrow down to find your toner type
TNR-STD – use this selection if your toner is standard yield tn-730
TNR-HC – use this selection if your toner is high yield tn-760
6. Once you select the type of toner, PRESS OK
7. Press the UP Arrow to confirm reset
8. The Display should say “Accepted”
9. Close the front cover

The Issue

Instructions

In order to resolve the issue and to restore proper operation of your HP printer, remove the cartridge from the machine and rotate the gear counterclockwise ¼ turn (90 degrees). Once the gear is rotated, reinstall the cartridge into your HP machine. You should feel a slight click as the cartridge locks into place. Close the door of your HP printer. The printer should resume with normal operation.

As HP recently requests consumers to upgrade firmware of HP printers using CF500's (HP 202A/X) toner cartridges through their website. New firmware version is 20201021. If Customers upgrade firmware to 20201021, current third-party toner cartridges won't be recognized on their printer. The only solution in this case is to downgrade the firmware by downloading the previous version in your printer.

On Sept 13, 2017, HP once again attempted to block printer owners from using third-party cartridges from functioning correctly, causing a number of ‘Cartridge Problem’ errors.

HP pushed an update to many users printers via the internet / firmware update, causing them to show errors. Some of the printer models that are being affected include the HP Officejet Pro 6200 Series, the HP Officejet 6800 series and the HP Officejet Pro 8600 series, to name a few. Cartridge models affected include the HP 950 / 950XL / 950 / 951XL, HP 934 / 934XL / 935 / 935XL and HP 970 / 971 / 970XL / 971XL.

HP did the same thing in 2016. then apologized to its consumers but confirmed that it “will block non-HP cartridges again in the future”. And now it has done so again.

Many consumers are being faced with the following message on their printers:

‘One or more cartridges appear to be damaged. Remove them and replace with new cartridges.’

There is a solution though!

Consumers who are encountering difficulties with their remanufactured cartridges can resolve the issue by downloading the new firmware from HP’s support page.

How to remove and replace a printhead in some Canon printers

Open the the inner cover (B) and push it down all the way to the bottom.
Pull the Carriage Tray towards the front of the machine. You may find resistance when the bottom of the Head Set Lever hits the back of the front edge. The Head Set Lever will move forward as it slides above that front edge.
Use your finger tips to grab the top of the center tab and pull out the print head. You will notice the front of the print head will drop face down as you pull it out of the machine.
Now go to section Installing (or Reseating) the Print Head.

Installing (or Reseating) the Print Head:

If you are installing a replacement print head, remove it from its packaging.
Hold the center tab of the replacement print head, with the front of the print head facing down (so you can see the back of the print head (green circuit board)), and ensure the two tabs on the front, bottom corners of the print head are inserted into the rails on either side of the print head holder.
Now slide the replacement print head into the machine.
As the print head slides into the holder, it will start to sit in an upright position.
Once the print head is seated in the print head holder, push the Head Set Lever towards the back of the machine.
Close the inner cover.

This article pertains to any PRINT QUALITY ISSUES with toner cartridges after they have been refilled:

Although almost all customers are satisfied with the quality of their cartridge after they refill it, the print quality depends on the condition of the cartridge and the level of usage / wear and tear of the cartridge. Quality is always going to be best when you refill an Original brand cartridge or a professionally remanufactured cartridge (that has gone through only 1 life cycle). Refilling a non-original brand cartridge (such as a compatible brand, or a cartridge which has been refilled multiple timnes) will have a much higher rate of cartridge wear and tear, and therefore lower quality prints. For these reasons we also do not recommend more than 1-2 refills on the same cartridge. Please note that even original brand cartridges can wear out early, but they will perform on average much better than non-original or multiple-refilled cartridges. We have investigated this with the manufacturer, and there are some reports about a firmware update that causes these error messages on some printers only when the printer is powered off, or if the lid is opened for a replacement cartridge. As long as you override the error message by pressing and holding the green "check" button, and as long as you leave the printer on, there should be no error messages after that until it comes time to replace the cartridge. Unfortunately this is the only workaround.

2. Press and hold Secure Print and Cancel at the same time. You will see "K-TNR-STD" display on the screen.

3. Using the + and - buttons select the toner you want to reset.

4. Press the Ok button.

5. It will display Ok? and hit the Ok button again to reset the toner.

6. Close the lid.

1. On the printer, open the front toner compartment door.
2. The Printer display will read, “Front cover open.”
3. Press the “Clear” button.
4. Printer will beep and the display should read, “Replace Drum?”
5. This is the tricky part, ignore the replace drum instructions. Instead on the keypad type in “*00″.
6. Display should read, “Accepted”.

Please check below the instructions to reset toner after refilling :

1. Turn your Brother HL-2240 off

2. Open the front cover of the printer

3. Press and hold Go and turn power on. Do not let the button go.

4. When all 3 lights light up, release the Go button.

5. Press the Go button twice (You will see the Ready light blink green every time you press the Go button)

6. All of the lights will light up

7. With all of the lights on, press and release the Go button 5 times (You will see the Ready light blink green every time you press the Go button)

8. The Error light will start blinking (Don't be alarmed. This is expected.)

9. Close door and wait. The printer will cycle through and make the sound it makes when you initially cut it on. After that sound stops, your green Ready light will be on and solid.

10. You are now ready to print.

Brother LC101 / LC103 / LC105 / LC107 not recognized

If your Brother printer is not recognizing our LC105 / LC107 ink cartridges, please request a replacement with our LC101 / LC103. We have found that a small percentage (1-2%) of Brother printers have a firmware update that may cause them to not accept the LC105 / LC107 - if that happens, please request a replacement of our LC 101 / LC 103 which we have not heard of any issues with.

Brother TN210 - no toner coming out

If you are getting no color out of your toner cartridge(s), but the cartridges are actually going through the motion of printing and the printer is accepting them, the possibilities are;

1. Look at the developing roller. Is there toner on the roller? You should see toner on the roller.

2. The developer roller may not be turning. Place a small dot on the roller with a marker pen in the region showed by the #1 in the attached pic (in this region, there is no toner). Insert the cartridge into the printer & let the printer come to Ready (this should turn the cartridge roller as the machine warms up). Pull the cartridge out & look at the roller. Is the dot in the same position (indicating the roller is not turning) or has the dot moved (roller is turning).

a. If the roller has not turned, then you may be missing a gear. Check to see all gears are in place.

b. If the roller has turned & there is toner on the roller, then there may be an electrical connection issue. There is only one electrical connection to the cartridge (see attached pic). The copper colored contact may be bent and not making contact with the drum unit.

How to Reset Brother TN-450 Toner Cartridges To Clear Toner Errors

Step 1 – Turn off your Brother laser printer or multifunction center.
Step 2 – Open the front cover of your Brother laser printer/MFC and make sure it remains that way thorough the whole procedures.
Step 3 – Hold the go button while turning on your Brother laser printer/MFC. All LEDs turn on and the Ready LED will turn off.
Step 4 – When the Ready LED turns off, release the GO button. All LEDs will turn off.
Step 5 – Press the GO button 2 times (Toner, Drum, and Error LEDs turn on).
Step 6 – Press the GO button 7 times. All LEDs turn off and then the Error LED will turn on.
Step 7 - When the Error LED stays on, close the front cover. The Error LED will turn off and the Ready LED will flash briefly.
Step 8 – Verify the Ready LED is on steady and the Toner LED is off. Once your done, you can now resume doing your print jobs.

With increasing sales of Samsung products plus greater penetration into other markets, they have switched to the following:

So, a machine in Colombia may in fact be a European machine and the only way to tell is by cartridge number.

To help understand and resolve this, you will note that product descriptions will show the exact cartridge number SUFFIX for that product:

/XAA – NORTH AND SOUTH AMERICA

/ELS – EUROPE

/XIP – INDIA ONLY

/XIL = CHINA ONLY

So, with a request for a chip, it is critical that the suffix is provided for a good match. This suffix is on the OEM cartridge itself.

Toner Error LED Does Not Reset After Replacing TN420/TN450 Toner Cartridge on HL Series Printers

The reset gear on the toner cartridge did not properly contact and reset the New Toner Sensor within
the printer. The reset gear will operate only once after the toner cartridge is installed and the position
of the gear cannot be reset after installation. To reset the Toner Error LED a manual reset procedure
must be performed.

Please verify the following before attempting a manual reset of the Toner Error LED
• The toner cartridge was not a previously used toner in a printer
• The toner cartridge is not a “starter toner cartridge”
• The printer has the latest firmware update

Solution:
The following steps will need to be perform to manually reset the Toner error LED
1. Turn off power to the printer
2. Open the front cover to the toner/drum section of the printer
3. Press and hold the “Go” button while turning on power to the printer
4. Release the “Go” button after “Toner, Drum, Error” LEDs turn on with the “Ready”
LED turn off. “All LEDs will now be OFF”
5. Press the “Go” button 2 times – “The Toner, Drum and Error LEDs will turn ON”
6. Press the “Go” button 6 times for a TN420 or Press the “Go” button 7 times for TN450
7. Close the front cover after Error LED starts to flash
8. The reset procedure has been completed

How to replace a drum in Brother laser printers (and how to overide the replace drum error)

The below info is from Brother's website, and pertains to replacing the drum cartridge in most Brother laser printers.
When your printer gives you an "out of life" error on the drum, you can either replace it with a new one, or follow the steps below to make the printer "think" you have replaced it so that you can get a little more usage out of your current drum (which is possibly not completely out of life at the moment you get the first error):

To replace the drum unit follow the instructions listed below:

The Brother machine has separate consumables the toner cartridge and the drum unit. Verify you replace only the drum unit and not the toner cartridge. If you want to know their difference, refer to "What is the difference between the toner cartridge and the drum unit?"

Do NOT use flammable substances or any type of spray to clean the inside or outside of the machine. Doing this may cause a fire or electrical shock.

Just after you have used the FAX/MFC, some internal parts of the machine are extremely HOT! When you open the top cover of the FAX/MFC, never touch the shaded parts as shown in the diagram below:

Open the front cover.
Remove the old drum unit. Place the drum unit on a drop cloth or large piece of disposable paper to avoid spilling and scattering the toner.

Remove the toner cartridge by holding down the lock lever on the right and pull the toner cartridge out of the drum unit assembly.

Wait to unpack the new drum unit until immediately before installing it. Place the old drum unit into the aluminium bag.
Reinstall the toner cartridge into the new drum unit.
Reinstall the new drum unit, keeping the front cover open.
Press the Clear key to display drum status.
Press 1 on the telephone keypad.

When the display shows "ACCEPTED", close the front cover.

Discard it according to local regulations. If you are not sure of them, call your local Sanitation Department. Be sure to seal the drum unit tightly so toner powder does not spill out of the unit. When discarding used drum units, keep them separate from domestic garbage.

1.With power on, open the toner access main door (You will get a "door open" message in the LCD.)

2.Hit the "Clear/Back" button and you go right to the “Toner Reset Menu”

3.Using the up ^ Down > "Search" arrow buttons you can then scroll through reset options for each of the printer's [4] toner cartridges!

Code: B. = black; C. = cyan; M. = magenta and Y. = yellow

4.For each for these cartridges is the option to reset for low yield = S or High Yield - H

5.Using the number keypad, select option #1 (to reset each to "H")

6.Hit the "Clear/Back" button to get out of the menu, close door and You will be able to print.

On Nov 11, 2013, Samsung updated their firmware on the Samsung CLT-504 and CLT-506 series cartridges as used in the below printer models:

Firmware updates render the printer to be unable to recognize refilled cartridges or compatible cartridges due to changes in the way the printer reads the non-original chip. New chips have been developed that work with the new firmware updates.

To avoid such issues, do not upgrade your firmware when the printer prompts you.

Can you use a UNIVERSAL toner kit on any toner cartridge?

No! Laser printers have different printer engines. Each laser printer engine has different melting points and is
designed to use toner with the correct particle size and melting point for proper dispersion onto the paper.
So each of the Universal 7 black toner kits is designed to work with a specific set of laser printers that all have the same relative particle size and meting points for the toner powder. Check the link description to see if your printer is compatible.

Using the Universal black toner refill kits typically saves at least half the cost of a new laser cartridge and the first print out of the refilled cartridge is as good as the last print out of the original cartridge.

For models not covered by the Universal kits, we have cartridge specific kits.

What does the page yield mean for my cartridges and what does 5% page coverage look like?

Page yield is defined as the number of pages you can expect to print with a particular cartridge. Of course, the amount of pages you can print depends on how much ink you are printing to those pages. Much like a car MPG (miles per gallon) equation, how many miles you will get per gallon depends on how fast you are driving and other conditions of your driving. The same applies to page yield for printer cartridges. The more data/text/images you print to a page, the more ink you use, the lower the amount of those particular pages you will be able to print with a given cartridge.

Therefore, the printer industry uses the same standard for page yield, which is based on a 5% page coverage. This means that if the page yield expectation for your cartridge is lets say "100 pages", that means you can expect to get around 100 pages, assuming those pages had an average of 5% of the page covered with ink (or toner).

Attached are 2 pictures showing what 5% page coverage looks like, and a comparison showing what 30% page coverage looks like. As an example and by comparison, if your printed pages look like the 30% example, that means you can expect to get 1/6th as many pages as the page yield indicates.

General Refilling Procedures:

1. First you need to locate the plastic SEALING PLUG similar to the one shown in this picture

to the right.

2. Once the plastic sealing plug is viewable, slowly and gently, pry the SEALING PLUG

away from the cartridge using a flat screwdriver – this reveals the filling hole.

3. Remove any toner left in the cartridge before refilling the cartridge.

4. Refill by pouring toner into the fill hole through the nozzle attached to the toner bottle.

5. Replace the plug when finished refilling

6. This cartridge has a MEMORY CHIP which needs to be replaced in order for the printer to

sense that there is toner in the cartridge. Simply pry the chip from the cartridge carefully,

and stick the new replacement chip in its place.

Samsung ML-2850 / ML-2851 toner cartridge refills - do I need to change the chip to get it to work?

The Samsung ML-2850 and ML-2851 toner cartridges have chips which sense the amount of toner left in the cartridge. The cartridges need to have the chips changed out when you refill them so that they are recognized as full.

There are some sporadic reports from customers who have been able to get the cartridges to work without changing the chips (by blocking the sensor in the printer that reads the chip with tape), but we have not been able to verify this, so our advice remains to change the chips with new replacement chips (which are available by Uni-Kit).

The starter cartridges may not have the chips, so it is recommended to refill non-starter cartridges.

INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO REPLACE THE CHIPS

Replacement chips are available for those customers who want to restore the “toner level monitoring” features that the chips have. If you have bought the replacement chip, please follow these simple chip replacement instructions:

1. Remove the old chip by first removing the screw in the top left hand corner of the diagram below

2. If your cartridge has an original chip with TWO holes in it (same as the photo below) and if the chip you have bought only has ONE hole, then

you need to follow step (3). If your cartridge does not look like the photo below, then move on to step (4)

3. You can skip this step if your cartridge does not look like the one in the photo below --- Using a flat utility knife or

blade, cut the plastic protrusion that is behind the chip on the top right corner. This plastic protrusion sticks through

the original QMS 2400 chip but has no purpose. If the replacement chip you purchased does not have a hole for this

protrusion to fit into, the protrusion will push on the chip unless you shave away at the protrusion by 1-2 mm. Then

the new replacement chip can sit snuggly over the protrusion and not stick out.

4. Replace the new chip by replacing the screw and the new chip in the same orientation Photo of a chip with TWO

holes and a protrusion jutting through the right hole. If the new chip you have only has ONE hole on the left, follow

step (3) above.

You could also try a workaround to get the cartridge to recognize your old (spent) cartridge, unless you have a new chip installed per above:

Magicolor 2400 Series

STEP 1

You need to find the STATUS DISPLAY icon for your QMS 2400

printer. To locate this icon, go to START ??? PROGRAMS ???

KONICA MINOLTA 2400 UTILITIES ??? and then select “STATUS”.

STEP 2

In the menu bar on top, select “PRINTER” and then select

“MODE SETTING”.

STEP 3

Uncheck the “AUTO TONER REPLACE” and then save or click

OK if prompted

STEP 4

Now turn your printer off, and then turn it back on a few seconds

later.

Magicolor 2430 Series

STEP 1

On your Magicolor 2430 series printer, make sure the panel display says

“READY”. Then press the MENU/SELECT button.

STEP 2

By scrolling with the right arrow button, continue until you stop at selection “ENGINE”. Now press the MENU/SELECT button again.

STEP 3

Scroll again with the right arrow button until you get to “TONER EMPTY”. Press the MENU/SELECT button again.

STEP 4

Press the right arrow button until you get to “TONER IS EMPTY OR

OUT”

STEP 5

Press MENU/SELECT button once more, and then press the UP arrow

until you see “READY”.

Starter toner cartridges for OKI C330 / C530 cannot be refilled, but non-starter cartridges can be refilled

STARTER toner cartridges for Okidata C330 & C530 (the ones that come with the printer when you first buy it) may slightly differ from non starter cartridges. These starter cartridges will not have a chip compartment to replace the chip.

If you are refilling a non starter cartridge, you will notice the chip compartment off one of the ends of the cartridge. You can find more information on refilling the this cartridge model at http://www.uni-kit.com/support.htm.

Samsung ML-2165 is locked - does not allow me to print, requires firmware download. What does this mean?

In order for the chip to function properly, you will need to download the firmware for Samsung MLT-D101S chip. To do this, please visit https://sites.google.com/site/samsungdownloads1/ and follow the firmware installation instructions, which can also be found here https://sites.google.com/site/samsungdownloads1/installation-manual.

Any stickers covering the contacts may be removed if they in fact do block any actual contact between the chip and the printer. However, please follow the steps in the links above before removing anything from the cartridge and moving forward.

Make sure than when you run the firmware install, the printer has to be connected to the computer via a
printer cable, not the wireless connection.
